Vehicle Modifications – the process

We’re happy to consult and assess your vehicle modifications. We’re experienced and familiar with the Department of Transport process, and can guide you throughout.
Before modifying your vehicle, the first step is to consult with an engineer to determine if the modifications are legal.
Next, submit a Department of Transport applicationto modify a light vehicle.
Once assessed, the Department of Transport will issue an Approval in Principle document. In this document there will be a list of items that require an engineer’s assessment. Your engineer guides you through the modification process then inspects and tests your vehicle. Once your engineer is satisfied they submit a report to the department of transport. The department of transport then send through your modification permit and your vehicle is now legal and a letter telling you if you need to have the vehicle undergo a roadworthy assessment.
If your vehicle is already modified the process is still the same except your engineer will be assessing the works already completed.
